During my encounters with highly wealthy and successful people, the number that have gone from poor to rich is overwhelming. What’s even more amazing is their personal stories, what they went through, and how they became what they are today.

Some remain very humble and by looking at them you would never imagine they are as wealthy as they really are. They still wear their old, beat up shoes, a dirty pair of jeans, and a rusty old pickup truck. Others, on the other hand, emanate success and you would be shocked to hear that just a few years prior their lives were anything but full luxury and freedom.

What’s incredible is that it seems those who go from poor to rich so to speak have many of the same qualities:

They have an undeniable desire to succeed

They do not accept failure as failure, and try again

They cannot be told “it can’t be done”

They take incredible risk

Sounds strange, but those who have nothing to lose have an advantage. A middle class person with an income that supports their family can’t really afford to take major risks in their lives, such as quitting their job to start their own business. Those who have no other option but to succeed, however, have a level of determination that can’t be measured.

Not so coincidentally, I’ve found that those who do take that giant leap of faith, quit their jobs and put their heart into their wealth building business have enormous success. It creates a “do or die” mentality that is needed to learn quickly and earn faster.

This makes an interesting dilemma. Any small business coach would highly recommend that you do not quit your job and that you focus onbuilding your business slowly. Once your business is capable of producing an adequate, sustained income that can support your lifestyle and then some, only then should you consider going “full-time.”

But, oddly enough, it seems that those people who have the inarguable certainty that they will succeed have a tendency to succeed. They see no other end result and they cannot afford to do anything but succeed.

Who says it takes a lifetime of savings and an impressive resume to make millions of dollars? Here are a couple teenage millionaires that prove the rest of us wrong:

Ashley Qualls started whateverlife.com at age 14 and dropped out of school when her website started making $70,000 a month. How did she do it? By accident.

Ashley, from Detroit, started her website with $8 she borrowed from her mom. Her friends liked her MySpace pages so much, she started posting them on her site for them to download. Apparently her friends were not the only people interested in her designs.

Traffic started flowing in, and now Ashley receives 7 million visitors a month. She was not even old enough to drive when she bought her first house for her and her mom.

Her website brings in between $40,000 and $70,000 a month, and many internet marketers feel she can make much, much more with her massive audience. Money doesn’t seem to be her primary motive though, as she recently passed on a $1.5 million buyout offer.

Cameron Johnson is well known in the internet marketing community, and may be classified as a serial entrepreneur.

He started his first business at age 9, where he made several thousand dollars selling greeting cards online. He was able to take his savings and make an offer to his sister to buy her Beanie Babies for $100 a piece. Those were sold for a quick profit and his profits were re-invested in buying more Beanie Babies.

By age 12, Cameron had made over $50,000, which he used to fund his next project. He started an email service called EZ Mail, which generated over $3,000 in income before he was even a teenager.

As you might imagine, Cameron did not stop there. At age 13, he start Surfingprizes.com. By age 15, he was cashing checks that were over $300,000. From there he continued to start a string of many other successful websites, including Certificate Swap, a website that allowed people to trade gift cards.

I wonder, is Cameron an entrepreneurial genius, with his string of incredibly successful start-ups? Or did he have any hiccups along the way.

Millionaire Money Habits: Making millions even for these teenage millionaires did not happen over night. Maybe it was a bit of luck or being at the right place at the right time, but these kids found a way to provide something of great value and capitalize on it. One thing is evident, is that they have a passion for what they do. -RT

What does Warren Buffett, baseball and patience have to do with one another? It is how the small-town billionaire made his fortune.

Being a big baseball fan, Buffett compares his investment philosophy to the wisdom he picked up from his favorite past time sport and his hero, Ted Williams. He told CNBC, “What’s nice about investing is you don’t have to swing at pitches. You can watch pitches come in one inch above or one inch below your navel and you don’t have to swing. No umpire is going to call you out. You can wait for the pitch you want.”

Just like Ted Williams, Buffett has been know to be very patient as he studies the opportunities and waits for the perfect moment. Then, when he receives the perfect pitch, he bets big. As Buffett has said in the past, “Don’t swing a lot, but if you do swing, swing for the fences.”

And he generally does bet big. According to U.S. News, his top 10 stock picks account for 90 percent of his publicly traded portfolio. When you are talking about well over $40 billion, those are some pretty high stakes by most portfolio manager’s standards, who generally own 150 or more different stocks in their portfolio. Buffett’s explains his thought process by quoting Ted Williams, “To be a good hitter, you’ve got to get a good ball to hit.” When you invest, you should be totally confident that you have a winning bet that will be a home run. Otherwise, you will strike out big.

Buffett has been known to be an incredibly patient investor, which has made him exceptionally successful. While he constantly pours through annual reports to find great pitches, he finds nothing wrong with holding onto his cash until the right opportunity presents itself. As long as money is being held in order to have purchasing power when the time is right, that is an acceptable part of an overall investment strategy. As he states, having cash will allow you to, “be greedy when others are fearful and fearful when others are greedy.”

Millionaire Money Habit: Investment opportunities will always present themselves. Resist wanting to invest in everything that seems like a good idea. Over-diversification will impede your ability to understand and manage all of your investments and can cost you more money in fees. Keeping cash on the sidelines to be prepared for the right moment is a suitable money management strategy. Play like Buffett and patiently wait for the perfect pitch.
